Garmin Database Update

This is a subscription service for keeping the navigation databases on Garmin aviation avionics and portable GPS units current: coverage can include airport directory, basemap, obstacle, terrain, SafeTaxi and chart data, offered individually or bundled through Garmin's OnePak/PilotPak subscriptions for every compatible avionics unit in an aircraft under one annual plan. Content is sourced from Garmin and its data suppliers, including Jeppesen NavData, and updates are managed and downloaded through Garmin's flyGarmin portal and Aviation Database Manager software.

Not the same as a Jeppesen or Honeywell/Bendix King subscription

Garmin, Jeppesen and Honeywell/Bendix King each run their own separate database subscription, and which one an aircraft needs depends on the avionics fitted, not on preference. A Garmin panel navigator, or an Aera 660/760 portable, runs on this Garmin subscription. A flight management system or non-Garmin panel running native Jeppesen-format data needs a Jeppesen Database Update instead. Honeywell and Bendix King avionics draw their base data from Jeppesen too, but distributed through their own Wingman Services channel rather than this one. Mixed-avionics aircraft typically need more than one subscription running at once, one per equipment type.

Every 28 days, on the AIRAC cycle

Like every other provider's aviation database, this one runs on the ICAO's 28-day AIRAC cycle rather than expiring on an arbitrary schedule. Renewing the subscription and loading the resulting update onto the device are two separate steps, and only the second one actually changes what the equipment is flying with.

ASPL supplies and renews Garmin database subscriptions for operators across India, alongside the Jeppesen and Honeywell/Bendix King subscriptions for mixed-avionics fleets, so aircraft running more than one provider's equipment have one place to keep every database current.
