The Nomad 2 is a portable Class B AIS transponder from Digital Yacht, built specifically to be removable rather than permanently wired in, so it can move between boats, a charter fleet, a race series, or simply a sailor who owns more than one vessel, without a separate installation on each one. It provides the same core Class B function as a fixed transponder, transmitting the carrying vessel’s position while receiving other AIS traffic, packaged for quick setup rather than a permanent through-hull or panel-mount fit. This trades some of a fixed installation’s permanence for genuine flexibility, which is exactly the point for an owner who needs AIS on whichever boat they happen to be using.
